Hopman Defeats McGrath DAVIS CUP TEAM TO SAIL (Received March 19, 5.5 p.m.) Melbourne, March 19. In the autumn lawn tenuis championships Hopman defeated the New South Wales colt McGrath in one of the most thrilling matches- ever seen in Victoria, 4-6, 3-6, 8-6, 6-2, 9-7. The Australian Davis Cup team sails for Europe to-nwrrow. The captain, Crawford, is quite optimistic, and declares that the prospects were never better for the Australians. OPEN TOURNAMENTS (Received March 19. 5.5 p.m.) Paris, March 17. The International Tennis Federation has banned open tournaments as. recently sanctioned by the American association, and has also decided that requalified professionals shall be ineligible for the Davis Cup but eligible for international and other tournaments in 1933 provided they are already qualified.
