Women’s Movement The first combined meeting of the Women’s Social Progress Movement was held in St. John’s Schoolroom, Upper Dixon Street, yesterday afternoon. Miss McLean, C.8.E., presided over a full attendance of members. The Rev. J. R. Blanchard, 8.A., gave an interesting address, and Mr. J. Malton-Murray spoke on “What New Zealand Women Can Do.” Mrs. Wilfred Andrews sang two charming numbers, accompanied by Mrs. Dallard. On the proposal of Mrs. Strong, seconded by Mrs. Whitehead, a vote of thanks was accorded to the speakers and to Mrs. Andrews. Later afternoon tea was served. A most successful • and enjoyable bridge party in aid of the Mothers’ Helpers’ Society was held yesterday afternoon at the lovely home of Mrs. Arthur Barnett, in Central Terrace. There were over sixty players, gailycoloured card tables being arranged in both the lounge and the sun parlour. Mixed hydrangeas in giant bowls were artistically placed in all the rooms, and a delicious tea, generously given by Mrs. Barnett, was .served on trays to each individual table.
Mrs. Barnett was helped by Mrs. Maurice Anderson, and during tea Miss Florence Penney sang. Mrs. Barnett was wearing a smart black frock with deeply cut black net vest and short puffed net sleeves. Mrs. Maurice Anderson had on a graceful frock of figured blue georgette. .
