Cricket, Tennis, Bowls

The. second round of the Wellington Cricket Association’s senior championship competition will commence to-day. Chief interest will centre in the match at the Basin Reserve between Wellington, who are leading with 30 points, and Wellington College Old Boys, who have 22 points. A win for Wellington will assure them the premiership, whereas a victory for Old Boys on the first innings will place them within three points of the leaders. ' The other game at the Basin Reserve will be between Petoue and Midland. Hutt, who have 22 points to their credit, will meet Kilbirnie, with 22 points, on the Hutt ground, and tlie result of this game also will have an important, bearing on the championship. University and Institute, who are at the bottom of the ladder, will meet on Petone Oval. Tennis. The Wellington Lawn Tennis Association’s inter-club competitions will be continued at Miramar this afternoon. At. the Lower Hutt club’s courts exhibition matches will be plfiyed by some of Wellington’s leading exponents, including C. E. Malfroy, D. G. France, N. R. C. Wilson, and the New Zealand woman champion, Miss Dulcie Nicholls. Bowls. The principal bowls event to-day is the annual match between tbe Wellington club and rinks from all other clubs in the centre, to be played on the Wellington green. Another event is the match for tbe Stansell Shield at Lyall Bay, between Ha taitai, Lyall Bay and Seatoun clubs. Five Eastbourne rinks will play at. Masterton this afternoon. Yacht Racing. Racing for keel yachts and centreboard boats will be held by the Royal Port Nicholson Yacht and Motor-boat Club this afternoon. All events will start and finish off Clyde Quay Wharf. Rifle Shooting. The Karori Defence Rifle Club wilt hold the last of its series of short range championship shoots over 500 and 600 yards ranges at Trentham. The Suburbs Defence Rifle Club will fire at match at Trentham over ranges of 800 and 900 yards.
