LIVE-STOCK EMBARGO
Foot-and-Mouth Disease
Cape Town, Feb. 2.
Britain has imposed an embargo on imports of all live ruminant animals, including sheep and pigs, hay and lucerne from the Union of South Africa, owing to the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Bechuanaland and neighbouring territory. The Agricultural Department is dras-
tically stamping out the infection. Cattle have been slaughtered in the affected area, and the veterinary director reports that the position is more hopeful.
