OBITUARY

Mr. Robert Scott The death occurred at a private hospital on Wednesday evening of Mr. Robert Scott, of Seatoun Parade, formerly head of the plumbing branch of the Government service for New Zealand, and a very well-known and greatly-respected citizen. The late Mr. Scott, who was born at Kimbricki. New South Wales, came to New Zealand when live years of age with his parents. His father, the late .Mr. Robert Scott, was a contractor, and was concerned in the construction of the railway tunnels through the Rimutaka mountains. Mr. Scott was recognised as an expert in heating and ventilation. For some years lie was an instructor at the Wellington Technical College. In the old days lie was a member of the City Rifles and the D Battery. For fifty years he was a member of St. Andrew’s Lodge of Freemasons, and was also a member of the Southern Cross Lodge of Oddfellows. The late Mr. Scott was a staunch supporter of the Presbyterian Church. For many years lie was a member of the kirk session of the Kent Terrace Church, and more recently was the senior cider of the Presbyterian Church at Seatoun. He was also'treasurer, vice-president, and president ol: the Victoria Bowling Club, and at one tune chairman of the Clyde Quay School Committee. He leaves two sons. Mi. Gibb, Mr. J. Keith, president and the directors of the Victoria Club, Messrs. Alex P. and James Smith, Thos. Forsyth, chairman of the Education Board, T. S. Powell, W. Mack, M. Marks, G. Snaddon, Colin Campbell, Captain J. Dawsou, C. Pole, and representatives of the Public Works Department and his lodges. A memorial service to Mr. Scott, who was senior elder, will be held in the Seatoun Presbyterian Church to-morrow evening. Mrs. R. M. Pemberton The death has occurred at Matamata of Mrs. Leila Catherine Pemberton, at the age of CT. -Mrs. Pemberton, who was the daughter of the late Mr. Hamilton Moore, was born in the Ilangitikei district. She married Mr. Robert M. Pemberton, a civil engineer, aud resided at Waikari, North Canterbury. After her husband’s death in 1894 she resided in Palmerston North, later farming in the Ashhurst aud Tirau districts. She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. G. W. Seton, Tirau, and Mrs. N. FitzHcrbert, P.utaruru, and six grandchildren. ■ . - Mr. H. Divers The death occurred at Dunedin yesterday. reports a Press Association message, of Mr. Harry Divers, who is well known in sporting circles throughout the Dominion, especially in boxing, wrestling, League football aud coursing. The late Mr. Divers was also interested in racing aud owned Stealth, now racing in Australia. lie leaves a widow.
