CHRISTIAN BROTHERS
Old Boys’ Branch Formed More than 30 persons recently attended a meeting at which it was decided to form a Wellington branch of the Christian Brothers’ (Dunedin) Old Boys’ Association. Mr. W. R. Kennedy, who presided, explained the objects of the branch and stated that there was every indication of success. The Superior of the Christian Brothers’ High School, Dunedin, the Rev. Brother O’Connor, addressed the assembly and welcomed the formation of the branch. The school was over 57 years old, he said, and its ex-pupils were now numerous throughout the Dominion, hence it was fitting that the Capital City should come into line with other centres. Others who spoke In favour, of the proposal were Messrs. J. P. Hayes (first Dux of the school), F. Shannahan, M. Kilmartin, A. P. Burke, and J. J. Con-
nor (who attended the school from 1880-1888).
Moved by Mr. Kennedy and seconded by Mr. Connor, the following motion was carried with acclamation:—“That a branch of the Christian Brothers’ Old Boys’ Association be formed at Wellington, such branch ,to have its own rules and management, provided that none of its rules conflict with those of the association in Dunedin.” The election of officers resulted as follows:—Joint patrons, the Superior of the school in Dunedin and the Superior of St. Kevin’s College, Oamaru; spiritual director, the Rev. Father N. Moloney, S.M. (Island Bay); president, Mr. T. Pound; vice-presidents, Messrs. J. P. Hayes and A. J. Tarleton; hon. secretary, Mr. D. Russell; committee, Messrs. W. R. Kennedy, J. E. Ryan, and J. J. Connor. The subscription was fixed at 2/6 a year. It was decided to hold a “Free and Easy Social Evening” on February 1.
