Fine Display at Town Hall A very large number of people visited the Town Hall yesterday for the National -Flower Show and enjoyed looking at the many interesting exhibits. There were some wonderful hydrangeas on display in the main hall, large firm rose pink, mauve and blue beauties being artistically arranged. The begonias also were a decided attraction, their colour, size and waxlike petals showing to great advantage. The official opening by the Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, took place at 3 p.m. With him on the platform were Mrs. Hislop, who wore' a blue wool remain suit touched with white, and a small blue beret; Mrs. Knox Gilmer, president of the Wellington Horticultural Society, who was in a suit of black and white summer-weight tweed and large black hat; Mr. F. J. Nat n, president of the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture; Mr. Campbell, of the Agricultural Department, and Mrs. Campbell; Mr. Norman Gibbons, president of the Lower Hutt Horticultural Society. A buffet afternoon tea was served in the Town Hall corridor. Upstairs in the Concert Chamber were many interesting exhibits. These were all entered by. women and they included some very fine paintings by Mrs. Tonkin, Auckland, of New Zealand wild flowers. The school children’s section was most entertaining. Here was shown the gladioli which had been planted, tended and reared by school children. Native plants made a brave showing. In the upstairs corridors wonderful gladioli were shown. The ladies’ decorative classes had some very fine exhibits also. On the stage of the main hall were displayed New Zealand fruits and small fruit-bearing trees. Among those present were Lady Myers, . Grant, Mr. Hope Gibbons, Mrs. G. Shirtcliff, Mrs. Matthews, Mrs. Nicholls, Miss S. Nathan, Mrs. Button, Mr. and Mrs. James Darling, Mrs. Doctor, Miss Black, Mrs. Radcliff.
