HIDES AND SKINS Better Auckland Prices At the fortnightly sale of hides and sheepskins at Auckland on Tuesday, there was a full attendance of buyers, both local tr.nners and export dealers operating freely. Values were higher as a consequence of the altered exchange rate. Hides were up from to Jd per lb, and skins about the same. Local tanners secured the bulk of the hides, whilst most of the dry skins went to shippers. The range of prices wns as follows: — Sheepskins.—Dry: Fine crossbred, 43d per lb; coarse crossbred, 3d; medium crossbred, 3id; half to threequarter wool, 3d ; short to half wool, 23<1; quarter wool, 2d; lambs, 4Jd; pelts. 2RI. Cabled advice has been received that the Union Company’s Karefti, from Newcastle and Sydney, left Suva yesterday for Auckland, with 9216 cases of bananas. TANKER OIL RELIANCE. Cabled advice has been received that the British tanker Oil Reliance, which has been loading bulk motor-spirit at Black Sea ports, cleared Istanbul last Monday for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. The vessel is bringing the first cargo of Russian motor spirit for Associated Motorists, and is due at Auckland about February 26.
