HOMEWARD BOUND

Few Cancelled Bookings So far the increase in the exchange rate New Zealand on London has not been responsible for the cancelling of many forward bookings. February March and April are the three principal months for. passenger traffic from New Zealand to' England, and intending travellers usually book some months ahead for sailings during those months. The increased exchange rate affects travellers not only by raising fares, but by reducing funds cabled to London for use at Home, and it was considered tjuit this would result in fairly heavy cancelltitions of forward bookings. There have been a number of cancelled berths for these reasons since last Friday, but they have not, so far at least, been particularly heavy. When the report that an increase in the exchange rate was pending last week a number of people booked to leave for Home took no risks and paid their full passage money to be on the safe side, and at least one ■ overseas shipping company experienced a very busy day last Thursday. Those who left matters until the next day were unfortunate, and had to pay at the new rates.
