CROQUET TOURNEY

Wellington Provincial Event • ONE LAWN ABANDONED The Wellington provincial . croquet tournament, which was continued ou the Kelburn, Mount Victoria, Wellington and Karori greens yesterday, was to have been held on the city municipal lawns in order to concentrate the players as much as possible, but the management was compelled to alter the arrangements. The Hataitai municipal laws were in such a condition through the dry weather that play upon them had to be abandoned. The Karori club, however, offered its greens to the association, otherwise the tournament would have been unduly prolonged. Competitors who entered for both the Dominion tourney at Lower Hutt and the local one are amazed at the difference in the greens. The lawns at the Hutt are very good, both as to turf and playing surface, but the condition of the city greens leaves much to be desired'. Excellent weather again favoured players yesterday.
