EMPHATIC PROTEST
Mortgagees Take Action WIRE TO PRIME MINISTER By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Jan. 25. The Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Mortgagees’ Protection Association was formed to-day. A constitution was adopted, and officers were elected. It was agreed to telegraph the Prime Minister emphatically protesting against further cuts in mortgagees’ interest or the contraction of mortgagees’ rights. Other motions carried were that mortgagees be represented on-mortgagors’ adjustment commissions, that it was common ground that the drastic legislation of the last few months was having a serious effect on the financial recovery of the country, that investors not only were finding that their rights In respect of existing contracts had been ruthlessly cut. but were afraid to enter into new ones for fear that similar or even more drastic legislation might be passed in the future: the result was that the flow of money for securities had definitely stopped.
