SCENE 1 IN ASSEMBLY
South African Parliament STRANGER INTERRUPTS Cape Town, Jan. 23. After prayers at the opening of the South African Parliament,; a man eluded the vigilance of the police, rushed across the lobby into the Assembly, and, waving his. hands, shouted: “Qswal Pirow, I accuse you of corruption and maladministration.” (Mr. Pirow is the Minister of Justice. ) A struggle followed with the attendants.' The House took a few minutes to recover its composure. _ • A motion to be submitted by General Smuts to-morrow in favour of a National Government is causing tense excitement. It is known that he and Mr. T. Roos conversed at the week-end, and also that the Government’s position is not assailed. Neither the disaffected Nationalists nor the Cresswellite Labour members will support the motion, Mr. Roos insisting on a coalition without the dominance of either party. The Assembly ratified the Ottawa Agreement, General Smuts paying a warm tribute to the Minister of Finance, Mr. N. C. Havenga, who attended the conference, said that they were at a day of small beginnings which might lead to great developments.
