GUIDE TO HOUSEWIFE

Retail Prices in City Shops

BUTTER RISES TO 1/-

Eull results of the exchange rate increase have not yet been felt in city shops, but there are evidences that some further increases will take place. Butter has risen from 10d to 1/- a pound, a wholesale rise of lid a pound having taken place recently. The manager of one grocery firm in the city said that it had increased all imported lines by 7% per cent, but this increase does not seem to have been made general. No advance has yet been made in the price of cheese, and meat has so far remained unaltered also. As far as the fruit market is concerned, the exchange rate will affect the price of imported varieties. Pineapples, pears, white grapes and black currants are out and none are coming to the shops.
