CHURCH ON PIT SHAFT . During -alterations at the Christ Church, Consett, Durham, it was discovered that the cliurch stands on the site of a.filled in colliery shaft. The church has stood nearly 70 years, and while smaller buildings near by hav n been condemned owing to subsidence the church shows not the slightest movement, and tsr called the safest spot in the town.
