PAYING TAXES IN HUNGARY.
Things might be made easier than they are for New Zealand taxpayers if tlie revenue authorities were as broadminded ns they are in Hungary. A circus proprietor in Budapest fell into arrears with his income tax payments recently. Did he merely plead inability to pay? Not at all. He forwarded to the collector seven lious and 33 monkeys. The collector did not, as might be expected, haughtily decline to take delivery? B.v no means. lie applied to the Zoological Gardens for an estimate, and proceeded to take over the animals, at valuation of £220.
