OBITUARY

Mr. T. V. Moore

The death occurred at Carterton on Saturday morning of a well-known Walrarapa resident, Mr. Thomas Victor Moore, at the age of 67 years, states a “Dominion” Special Service message.

The son of pioneer Wairarapa settlers, the late Mr. Moore was born at Carterton in 1865. He engaged in farming, and early took a keen-inter-est in local body affairs, becoming a member of the original Taratahi-Car-terton. Road Board in 1596. On thia body merging into the Wairarapa South County Council he was elected a councillor. He was appointed chairman in 1921, and retained that office until his death. In 1911 he was appointed a member of the Wairarapa Hospital Board, and this office, too, he held without a break until his death. When the Wairarapa Power Board came into being In 1923 Mr. Moore was elected to a seat, and in September, 1931, became chairman. He lost his seat, however, at the April elections, 1932. In private life Mr. Moore was a quiet and unassuming gentle- . man. His health failed him in recent vears, and he recently took a healthrecruiting trip abroad. He suffered a stroke on Tuesday, " however, from which he did not rally. The deceased, who was unmarried, is survived by his mother, a sister (Miss Florence Moore), and five brothers, Messrs. Clarence and Wilfred (Carterton), Jack (Plimmerton), Herbert (Waingawa), Henry (Auckland), and Edwin Moore (Te Kuiti).
