OFFER TO CALGARY
Payment, of Debentures
Calgary, Jan. 20.
The Bank of Montreal has agreed to lend the City of Calgary 300,000 dollars necessary to meet the United States exchange rates, on 2,135,000 dollars in debentures which matured in New York on January 1. The Mayor, Mr. Davison, received a letter to-day to this effect from the bank’s head office in Montreal. He will place it before the City Council for decision. Mr. Davison said that he had no reason to believe the Council would alter its refusal to pay the debentures in other than Canadian funds.
