FEWER SCHOLARSHIPS
N.Z. University Changes In view of the fact that the Government is still unable to make its statutory grant to the University of New Zealand, and in view of the need not to increase the future liability of the university when there was a prospect of a falling off of its revenue, the Senate. at its annual meeting yesterday, decided to make the following changes in its scholarships For this year the value of senior scholarships will be reduced to the old figure, viz.. £6O per annum, ti reduction of £lO. In regard to post-graduate travelling scholarships, it was decided in the meantime to suspend all of these with the exception of one in science and two in arts. Tlie feeling of the Senate was that every effort should be made to continue scholarships that enabled candidates to complete their university courses, and therefore tlie number of junior and senior scholarships should not be reduced unless further restriction of finance rendered it necessary.
