Sir A. Gray Congratulated HONOUR OF KNIGHTHOOD Before the commencement of business at a sitting of the Magistrate’s Court on Monday, over which Mr. ,E. Page, S.M., presided, Mr. H. F. Johnston, K.C., ou behalf of the members of the Bar, asked his worship to allow him to extend to Sir Alxeander Gray, K.C., the felicitations of the Bar on his well-deserved honour of knighthood. Mr. Johnston said Sir Alexander was recognised as one who had always upheld the highest traditions of the Bar, and in the discharge of the duties appertaining to the office of president of the New Zealand Law Society his conduct had been such as to earn the esteem of all members of tlie legal profession. They all took pleasure in the fact that Sir Alexander Gray’s long and honourable career at the Bar had been so recognised. Mr. Page said the members of the Bench which he represented identified themselves with the remarks made by Mr. Johnston. Mr. Gray had been a leader of the Bar for many years, and in that capacity and as president of the New Zealand Law Society he had set a standard of which members of the Bar were justly proud. The highest traditions of the profession had been maintained at his hands. -He congratulated Sir Alexander Gray upon the honour bestowed on him. Sir Alexander Gray, in replying, thanked the speakers, and said that he regrarded the honour as one bestowed not on himself individually but on tlie whole of tlie members of the legal profession.
