CHILDREN AT THE ZOO
Large Party Entertained
Several thousand school children were the guests of R.K.O. Radio Pictures (Australasia), at the 'Wellington Zoological Gardens yesterday. By means of loudspeakers, Mr. B. Burnard, of R.K.O. Pictures, spoke to the children about wild animals and the methods employed in capturing them for zoos all over the world. Particular attention was drawn to the animals in the Wellington Zoo, captured by one of the most famous of all modern big game hunters, Frank Buck, whose motto is said to be, "Bring ’em back alive.” Bags of peanuts and sweets were presented to each child. Girls first, boys afterwards, the young visitors formed a queue to enter the elephant’s house, where Mr. Burnard, the curator of the Zoo, and other helpers, distributed the gift packets, and occasionally inspected pocket and mouths for tracer of a previous visit. The elephant remained unconcerned throughout the' excitement which prevailed in his domain.
