Final Meeting of Year GOOD MANUAL WORK The final meeting of the Wellington Education Board for the present year was held yesterday morning. There were present Messrs. T. Forsyth (chairman), Messrs. W. 11. Jackson, F. 0. Meyer, P. Robertson, W. V. Dyer, J. Stonehouse, C. 11. Nicholls, A. C. Blake, A. Williams, A. Donald, T. IV. McDonald, D. McCallum, ad J. J. Clark. Mr. W. J. Boden, acting senior inspector of schools, was also in attendance. Manual Work in Schools. Flattering references were made to the very fine display recently made by the primary school pupils in the Masterton Manual Training Centre, and in particular to the work for which Miss K. C. Bagge, domestic science instructress, was responsible. Mr. W. 11. Jackson, of Masterton, said it was really a remarkably fine display, . and was brought forcibly under the notice ot the public by being given in two large shop windows in the main street. The board decided to write to all the instructors commending them on the displays made in the different provincial centres. Lighthouse Children. An intimation was received from the Minister of Education (Hon. R. Masters) to the effect that he regretted he could not accede to the board’s request that section 33 of the Finance Act, 1932, be amended to allow of children at lighthouses being enrolled at school on their attaining the age of five years. The letter was received. “A Grave Mistake.” “I suppose this Is the final kick over the Training College,” said Colonel T. IV. McDonald, after hearing the final monthly report of the headmaster of that institution (Mr. E. K. Lomas). “If that is so, I want to say that I consider it a grave mistake not to have a training college affiliated to the University.” Seasonable Greetings. Opportunity was taken by the chairman of the board (Mr. T. Forsyth) to offer the season’s greetings to members of the board and the staff. He thanked the members of the board for the way they had worked with him, and also j the officers of the various departments for the manner they had worked. It had been a pleasant year, and though they had to cut down in many ways, every member of the board had co-oper-ated in a splendid way, ttnd he hoped they would all come back to a brighter and happier New Year. Mr. J. J Clark and Mr. W. 11. Jackson replied in suitable terms. Mr. E. >S. Hylton (secretary) replied on behalf of the staff. Mr. G. L. Stewart (ex-secretary of the board) also attended the meeting, and was cordially welcomed bj’ members.
