IMPORTERS’ INTERESTS
Wellington Association Meets
At a meeting of the council of the Wellington Importers’ Association held on Tuesday the president, Mr. Edwin Salmond, reported that the importers’ section of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce had become affiliated with the New Zealand Importers’ Federation, thereby completing affiliation of the importing interests in all the chief centres.
A reply was received from the Wellington Harbour Board to the request of the association asking that the disparity between inward ami outward wharfages be . reduced. The Harbour Board advised that while it could make no reduction at the present time, the recommendations of the association would receive full and careful consideration if and when the occasion arises for further reductions in its wharfage rates. The claims committee reported that it was dealing with two matters affecting the interests of members of the association, and was making necessary investigations, the result of which would be made known at next meeting.
The reports of the president and the secretary were discussed and adopted. The secretary stated that since the previous meeting ho had received a large number of applications for membership. These were considered by the council and duly accepted.
