Fine Fat Lambs XMAS SHOPPING HOURS Masterton, Dec. 14. A ..special train left Featherston on Tuesday morning for Wellington with 1600 fine fat lambs from the Martinborough district. The lambs, which were taken to Featherston in motor-lorries, are considered to he one of the best lines which has left Featherston station in recent years. Christmas Shopping Hours. Next week the half-holiday is to be observed on Tuesday by Masterton shopkeepers. On the Friday following the shops will close at the usual week-day hour, 5.30 p.nt., but on Saturday, Christmas Eve, they will remain open until 10.30 p.m.

Grady Medals (Bowls). The holders of the Grady Medals. E. Reid and W. Wilkinson (s.), of the Masterton Bowling Club, successfully defended the medals, against J. Finlayson and W. Gison (s.), of the Park club. The Masterton pair won25 —13.

Croquet Trophy Match. In a match for the Wairarapa Gold Buttons, played at the Masterton club’s greens yesterday, Mesdames Finlayson and Polson (Masterton) beat Mesdames Wilkinson and Weller (Lansdowne), 26—15, after a good game.

Art Display at Solway College. Some fine examples of the various arts nnd crafts in which instruction is given at Solway College, may be seen in the display of work at present on view in the studio at the school. The art mistress, Miss Ruth Perry, and her pupils are to be complimented on the display of sketches, lino-euts, clay-modelled garden ornaments, and needlework, which forms such an artistic display.

Assistance for Swimmers. A deputation from the Pahiatua Swimming Club waited upon the monthly meeting of the Pahiatua Borough Council seeking financial assistance. The president of the club, Mr. J. A. Walsh, said.that there had been a marked falling off in receipts of the club, due to the depression, and failing a subsidy from the council it would appear that the club would have to hand over the control of the baths to the council. Giving an account of the work the club was doing, he said that roughly SOO children had been taught to swim since the club came into existence. After discussion the council voted £lO to the club.
