The interclub matches will be suspended during the Christmas holidays, the last game for this year being played on December 20. Play will be resumed on January 10, but clubs have the privilege of being allowed to play any of their matches during the holidays, if they are able to mutually arrange them. Several pre-dated games have already been played off, and there is every prospect that few games will be played on account of the coming tournaments. In last week’s aggregate score for the A grade interclub contest, an error was made in the figures of the Kelburn (2) team. The total should have been 260, not 240, and their position was the leading one in the A grade; Wellington (1) being one point behind them. Kelburn (2) had not lost a game when the figures were compiled. The results of the sixth round of play are:— A grade: Ngaroma 52. Wellington (1) 52, Wellington (2) 52, Kelburn (2) 47, Hutt 47, Woburn 46, Kelburn (1) 45, Ilataitni (1) 44, Waimaric (1) 42,-East-bourne 37, Mount Victoria 32, Island Bay 32, Central 32, Hataitai (2) 20. Champion of Champions. A suggestion has been made that the champion of champions competition should be played at the conclusion of the Wellington association’s tourney, which commences on January 24. A number of locnl clubs are now playing off their championships, in case the proposal is carried at the meeting to be held to-day,. It is thought that in many ways it would be a popular move. The players would be in their best form, immediately after competing in the tournaments, and the lawns would only be occupied for a few days, as many of the games could be played on any vacant greens, while the tourney was in progress. It would also leave lawns free for the balance of the season. McKenzie Ca|»s.

Kelburn players were successful in their challenge game , against Ngaio. The high wind which prevailed was most unpleasant and affected the running of the balls. The score was 26- —12. Wellington representatives now meet Kelburn.

Pollock Stars. The Pollock Stars seem to have established a permanent home at Hataitai, Mesdames Thomas and Moeller having played six challenges for them, and with success. To-day they are to meet Mesdames Lewis and Dryden, Karori. Last year they lost the Stars to Karori players, Mesdames Flint and Lewis.

Mount Victoria Club’s Loss. The Mount Victoria club arranged a farewell function to Mrs. Cleary last Saturday afternoon, and it was highly _ successful. Mrs. Cleary has been captain of the club for several seasons, but is now leaving to reside in Wanganui. The president, Mrs. Campbell, voiced the regret of the members at the loss the club was sustained, by the departure of their captain and recalled how, under Mrs. Cleary’s guidance, the grading of play had advanced from that of a B grade to first intermediate grade and finally, this season, they were able to enter a team in the A grade interclub competitions. On behalf of the members Mrs. Campbell presented Mrs. Cleary with a handsome service ’wagon. Attached to this gift was a silver tablet suitably engraved. Competitions were played, and a delicious afternoon tea was supplied by the members. The results of the events were: —• Clock, Mrs. Pearson; angles, Mrs. Winchcombe ; take-off, Mrs. Colley; to and fro. Miss McKenzie. A “bring-and-buy” stall was also organised, and a satisfactory sum will be added to the club funds.

New Zealand Council. The New Zealand Croquet Council has issued a memorandum, containing eleven notices of motion. One of the most important is the increasing of the number of vice-presidents. At present there is only one, with a vote, and it is proposed that there be an additional one. A similar notice of motion was brought forward by the Auckland association in 1931, but was defeated by 20 votes to

15 - - , . The Wellington association s notice ot motion, “That nominations for the officers be sent in 30 days before the annual meeting and subsequently issued to all the clubs.” will come up again. This proposal was defeated three years ago by 15 votes. Another notice of motion of great importance to all players is the one which reads: “That rule 14 bo altered to allow for an annual subscription of at most 2/6 per certified club memlfer, and that the minimum subscription of one guinea be done away with.” When the council was first formed in 1920 the levy was 1/per member; later this was reduced to 6<l. and the latter fee has ruled for several years, and at. no time has the minimum subscription of one guinea been enforced.

Chib and Personal Notes. The Hataitai olub members are entertaining the honorary members of the club on Saturday next at their lawns. Competitions have, been arranged, and an enjoyable afternoon is anticipated. Christmas greetings from Sir Francis and adv Colchester-YVemyss, also from Mr. Windsor Richards, to the croquet, players in the Wellington district were received bv the last mail. Mr. and Mrs. M. Sedgwick, Karori, have generously placed their lawn at. the disposal of Mr. A. Ross during his visit to Wellington next week to give instruction in tactics and shots. It is Mr. Ross’s intention to visit, Ngaio and Karon during the week. The Wellington club arranged an afternoon for the city ambulance fund this week, and although the entertainment followed close on the heels of "Happiness Week,” the sum of nearly £4 was realised. Mr. and ?lrs. Roffe were present on the occasion mid several competitions were played and much enjoyed.
