COOKING ECONOMY
Among the hints contributed by "Handyman” .to the “Homes and Furnishings” page of last Friday’s “Dominion” was one which recommended, as a means of economising in gas consumption, that a piece of zinc sheet should be cut to tit the top of a gas range, enabling a single burner to be employed. The metal zine, which was recommended by a slip of the pen, should on no account be used. As is well-known, the melting-point of zinc is comparatively low. and the application of a gas flame would cause the sheet to collapse. Ordinary black iron is the proper material, and it has' the -advantage of being considerably, cheaper'.,- .
