Opium Found in Possession By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Dec. 13. A Chinese fruiterer, Allan Lum On, aged 32, appeared In the Police Court charged with unlawfully having in his possession 21 packets of prepared opium. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said accused would not disclose where the drug was obtained. A bank book in the possession of accused, who was described by Mr. McHugh as a distributor of opium, showed a credit of £BO. Answering the Detective-Sergeant, accused denied that the bank book was in connection with opium “trust.” He said the money belonged to his brother, who was a carrier.
“He makes more money than most carriers,” remarked the magistrate. Accused was fined £5O. Default was fixed at three months’ imprisonment.
