FIND OF GOLD
Report from West Coast IN OLD RIVER-BED Wash Said to be Rich Dominion Special Service. Dunedin, Dec. 13. Information of what appears to be a gold discovery of considerable importance on the West Coast has been received by a Dunedin mining engineer, Mr. R. T. Stewart. It is stated that an old river bed rich in gold lias been discovered within the past few days, and that tire wash so far exposed is of a particularly rich nature. Some difficulty in sinking a shaft was experienced by the prospectors who made the discovery owing to the wet nature of the ground, but they were able to cope with the water by using an engine and pump. Information received by Mr. Stewart was to the effect that one bucketful of wash had yielded £5 worth of gold. The course of the old river channel, the exact locatiou of which Mr. Stewart declined to disclose, has been pegged out for a distance of six miles.
