Pukeuri Freezers Commence MEN SHOW CONTENTMENT By Telegraph.—Press Association. Oamaru, Dec. 18. The Pukeuri freezing works opened yesterday with union labour, and the men are working contentedly. These are the first works in the Dominion to open without free labour.

FEILDING SEASON OPENS No Trouble Experienced Dominion Special Service. Feilding, Dec. 13. The killing season was commenced at the Feilding freezing works at Aorangi yesterday with 30 volunteer labourers working under the chain system. There was no interference with the non-union employees and work proceeded satisfactorily throughout the day. When the volunteer employees commenced work yesterday morning about 12 firemen and greasers, who are members of the union, stopped work. Their positions were immediately filled. Work is going smoothly. When operations began the firemen and trimmers, who are unionists, downed shovels. Their places were filled immediately. CHAIN PLAN IN USE Successful at Waingawa Dominion Special Service. Masterton, Dec. 13. The chain system of killing is now being successfully operated at Waingawa Freezing Works, two teams of thirteen men being engaged. In addition twenty slaughtermen are employed killing under ordinary methods. The daily output of the works now totals about 3000 sheep and lambs, besides pigs. BESETTING ALLEGED Remands at Palmerston Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, Dec. 13. Appearing on remand on charges of watching anti besetting Longburn Freezing Works employees, Oswald Saunders and William Frederick Watson were remanded to appear next Mou day by Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., in the I’olice Court this morning. Saunders was also charged with using insulting language in a public place. Counsel for accused said he understood that 30 or 40 other men were being brought, before the court on summonses. Bail of £2OO self, and two sureties of £lOO each, was renewed.
