SHIPS IN BALLAST
Coming Out to Lift Exports FLUSH OF SEASON RUSH Now that the export season is coming into full swing, large overseas vessels are again beginning to leave England in ballast for New Zealautl to load Homewards. The Federal steamer Huntingdon, which arrived at Wellington on November 29 was the first of these, and was making her fdurth consecutive trip to New Zealand in ballast, while a further six, the Northumberland. Port Sydney, Waimana, Tairoa. Cumberland, and Maimoa, are at present en route to New Zealand. Altogether over fifty vessels are due in New Zealand between now and next April to load Homewards, while many more will discharge English cargo in Australia, and then come to New Zealand to load. , For many years past a number of vessels have arrived in New Zealand iu ballast during the flush of the export season. For the last two seasons they have greatly increased in number owing to the huge falling-off in imports, and last year between fifty and sixty ships arrived in ballast, about treble the number of those arriving the previous year, when the figures also were considerably iu excess of those of earlier years.
