MEMORIAL WINDOWS
Presbyterian Church, Seatoun DEDICATION ON SUNDAY On Sunday evening next eight new stalnbtl glass memorial windows are to be dedicated by the Rev. A. A. Armstrong at the new Presbyterian Church at Seatoun, a sanctuary already rich in gifts. The windows have been presented as memorials to the late Captain John Kcir (who was killed at Passchendaele); three are in memory of Mrs. Margaret Urie (who left a legacy of £l5OO to the church fund), her son, Jack, and daughter, Jessie; one is to the late Mr. E. Jplinson, a former elder of the church; one to the memory of the late Mrs. Robert Scott, of Seatoun; one has been presented by the Rev. A. A. _ and Mrs. Armstrong as a thanks memorial for Christian parentage; and one was given by Mr. and Mrs. B. Anderson as a memorial to their deceased children. What is rather unique about these windows is that every one of them has been designed by the minister of the church, the Rev. A. A. Armstrong, who has had artistic training, and has creative ideas in design, as exemplified in the new marble baptismal font, the design of which he originated. Mr. Armstrong has departed from the Scriptural designs of mediaeval times in favour of significant symbolism, as witness the flame of devotion burning on the altar of sacrifice in the window which commemorates the life and death of a brave soldier. Then in the window to be dedicated to Mrs. Urie is made significant by tire alabaster box of ointment, a symbol of service and devotion. One of the windows in the apse embodies the ipalm tree, symbol of a good and fruitful life, and the centre window’ shows the burning bush rising from the cross, which rests upon a sphere or globe which stands firmly on a foundation of solid rock. The burning bush is the emblem of the Presbyterian Church. Round the top are the Latin words, “Nee Tameh Cohsumebatur” (always burning, never consumed). Tire allegory In this design is as patent as it Is original ih form. The windows were made by tte Thornton Art Glass Company.
