Burslem and • Cobridge districts of Stoke-on-Trent were visited on October 6 by a dust, “storm.” which covered a wide area with a thick, sooty deposit. Buildings, roads, and gardens were blanketed, and many pedestrians were covered from head to foot before they could reach shelter. So heavy was the dust cloud that the .district was darkened for nearly fifteen minutes. The dust had spread from a tip where refuse, largely consisting nt fine dust, is placed. The summit of. the cone-shaped tip had collapsed.
