ESCAPEE CAPTURED
Masqueraded as Angler i ’ REMAND TO WELLINGTON ■ Dominion Special Service. ' Auckland, Dec. 12. After having been at liberty since April 29, Frederick William Schluter, aged, 43, has been recaptured near Hunterville while masquerading as an angler. He escaped from Mount Eden, where he was engaged in preparing a telephone wire connecting up one of the warder’s houses. He made good his escape, it is thought, with the help of friends. ■ In May a fruiterer was charged in the xVuckland Police Court with having harboured the escaped prisoner from April 30 to May 15. Schluter’s wife was the man’s housekeeper. Schluter has a long criminal record. He is a New Zealander, and has been before the court on charges of false pretences. Schluter was noticed by. a policeman near Hunterville on Sunday, and was found in an encampment on the banks of , the Rangitikei River, six miles from Hunterville. He submitted quietly to arrest, and was charged in the Hunterville Police Court this morning and remanded to appear at Wellington to-morrow. He will be charged with offences previously committed in Wellington, and then will be brought back to Auckland, to stand trial for escaping■ from Mount Eden gaol.
