Seven Chinese Arrested

TWO JUMP FROM WINDOW By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Dec. 10. Seven Chinese were arrested in a raid last night on an opium den in Grey’s Avenue. Two jumped from a window to the pavement in an attempt to escape, but both were caught. One was unconscious for a time, but was only slightly injured. AVong Hum was to-day fined £l5O for keeping the premises for opium smoking. and for possessing opium. The prosecuting officer said that these Chinese constantly changed their names, and the only way the police could keep track of them was by fingerprints. CASE AT GREYMOUTH By Telegraph.—Press Association. Greyinoutli, Dec. 10. A. H. AVee. aged 67, was convicted at Greymouth this morning and fined £25 on each of two charges of being in possession of opium fit for smoking.
