DEATH OF EX-M.P.

Mr. James Horn, of Dunedin

The death occurred yesterday morning of Mr. James Horn, ex-M.P. for Wakatipu, states a Dominion Special Service message from Dunedin. Mr. Horn was born in Banffshire, Scotland, in 1855, and at the age of 20 years came out to New Zealand in the sailing ship Oamaru. In 1883 he purchased a storekeeping business at Bannockburn, and was closely identified with the interests of the district till 1916, when he retired from business, and with his family came to Dunedin to live.

In 1919 Mr. Horn, who always stood as a Liberal, was elected to the House of Representatives in succession to Sir William Fraser, and the Wakatipu seat remained safely in his keeping until, on the dissolution of Parliament in 1928, he retired from political life.
