TO HANDLE MEAT
Decision of Wellington Watersiders BALLOT ON SATURDAY As the result of a ballot held on Saturday morning by the Wellington waterside workers they will accept work when a call is made this morning to load frozen meat into the O. and D. Line motor-ship Port Dunedin. The men refused to handle the meat last Thursday and again on Saturday morning. The vessel’s crew commenced loading the meat last Thursday night and continued on Friday and Saturday, loading about 8000 freight carcases out of a total of 16,000. The remaining 8000 will be loaded into the vessel to-day by the watersiders, and the Port Dunedin is to leave here to-day for Gisborne and Auckland to complete loading for London. It is understood that this decision by the waterside workers applies not only to the Port Dunedin but to all vessels working meat at Wellington, of which there will be three this week —the Norfolk, due to-morrow, Tasmania on Wednesday and Mataroa on Thursday.
