Dame Sybil Thorndike’s Visit According to advice received by Mr. H. Stringer, representative for J. C. Williamson, Ltd., the famous English actress, Dame Sybil Thorndike, and company, are to open a season at the Grand Opera House about Christmas time. Dame Sybil, who is perhaps the foremost English actress of her type living, will be seen here in Geo. Bernard Shaw’s “Saint Joan,” the famous historical drama she has been playing in for the last seven years, the same author’s “Captain Brassbound’s Conversion,” Shakespeare’s tragedy “Macbeth,” and Ibsen’s “Ghosts.” Dame Sybil will be accompanied by her husband, Mr. L. Casson. The Williamson attraction in Auckland at Christmas will be the new vaudeville company, headed by Ella Shields, the London character comedian, and George Wallace, the Australian fun-maker.
