NO ONE TO STARVE
Mr. Coates’s Assurances M.P.’s ASKED TO NOTIFY An appeal to members of Parliament to assist the Government by notifying cases of distress was made in the House last night by the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates. “We have already said we shall not allow any man in this country to starve,” said Mr. Coates, in reply to strong criticism of the administration by Labour members and by Mr. R. A. Wright (Govt., Wellington Suburbs). “Members must remember that we are dealing with 70,000, and with such a huge number it is impossible for us to say if everyone is properly fed. If members know cases where people are starving, then let them give the cases to us. General statements are not good enough.” Mr. Wright urged upon the Government that unless the question was faced now, the time would come when it would have to be faced. “They only want a leader —a Napoleon among them/’ said Mr. Wright. “That time is coming.”
