WELLINGTON ROSE SHOW
The Wellington Horticultural Society's Rose Show, to be held in the Town Hall on Wednesday, will be officially opened by his Worship tbe Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, at 3 p.m. The soil in and around Wellington is peculiarly adapted for rose-growing, which no doubt accounts for the fact that the Town Hall. Wellington, is the Mecca of the rose exhibitor. The season has been a most favourable one and exhibits are promised from as far afield as Christchurch, while Wellington, Hutt Valley, and suburban rose growers will compete for generous cash prizes 'and valuable trophies. The pansy and viola classes are always well represented and the Ladies’ Decorative Committee promises its usual high standard. There will be keen competition by the suburban societies for the “Evening Post” trophy and magnificent displays of modern hydrangeas will be worth going miles to view. The show will be open from 2 p.m. continuously.
