SOLDIERS’ SONS

Training at Flock House ; QUESTION OF SUBSIDY Reference to the fact that Flock House was now open to the sons of I New Zealand returned soldiers was • made by tbe chairman of trustees of the New Zealand Sheepowners’ Acknowledgement of Debt to British Seamen ’ Fund, Mr. E. Newman, C.M.G., at the ■ annual meeting of subscribers yester- ; day. The annual report stated that 57 ’ New Zealand boys were now in train- [ ing, and Mr. Newman said he felt sure everyone would appreciate the fact ; that the trustees were able to carry on ■ the work. He had received a letter from the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, confirming a, promise . given that the Government subsidy of : £25 would be paid in respect of a number of boys up to and including 27, who ’ were entered during January, Febru- ; ary and March, 1933. ' Sir James Allen said that now that : the doors of Flock House had been ’ thrown open to New Zealand boys, ' the country ought, in no uncertain j voice, make the Government realise ; that they should assist. Subscriptions ’ continued until February, 1933, would ' allow something like 90 boys to be ; trained, and he was of the opinion that the small amount of £25 a boy given by the Government, should be continued until all the available soldiers’ sous had been worked off. In the future, he continued, the scheme might.be applied s to the training of New Zealand boys ■ who were not soldiers’ sons. Mr. ,A. T. Duncan, of the Returned ; Soldiers’ Association, said that it was only a few months since the initial meeting regarding the training of New Zealand boys had been held, and it was a remarkable achievement to have 57 boys in training .at the present time.
