BOWLING CENTRE

Examination of Bowls PENNANT GAMES PLAY Should any bowlers present themselves for play in the pennant matches on Saturday with bowls which are not properly stamped and marked on both discs with a distinctive mark, they are likely to have their bowls condemned. The Wellington Bowling Centre \ Executive decided last evening to request clubs to appoint umpires to examine bowls before play commences in the pennant games and tournaments. The president. Mr. W. Perry, said the effect would be that any bowls which were not in order would be condemned, and the player would have to find other bowls before he could play. One delegate said the umpires would have an unpleasant task, but the executive felt that ample warning had been given, and the rules should now be enforced. The president referred to the death of Mr. W. Bradnock, a foundation member of Karpri club, and moved a vote of condolence with the relatives. This was carried in silence.

The secretary reported that he had looked up the rule regarding clubs’ levies, and found that they were required to pay the levy on ordinary and honorary members. The question had been raised by Hataitai club, which objected to paying the levy on hon. members, saying that they mostly paid a small subscription and only used the club for. social purposes. The president, who had previously given his ruling on the question, confirmed his ruling. On the motion of Mr. V. Dimock it was decided to pay a visit, to Marlborough Centre this season, the date to be fixed later. ■

The hop. treasurer reported that £93 15/4 had been received •in club levies since the last meeting. A meeting’of club presidents has been called for 8 o’clock on Thursday evening at Wellington Bowling Club pavilion to meet the president of the New Zealand Bowling Association to discuss arrangements in regard to supply of morning and afternoon teas at the Dominion tournament. '

A suggestion was put forward that a tournament should be arranged for presidents, vice-presidents and past presidents of clubs in the centre, the entrance fee to be 5/-, and the trophies to ije badges. The proceeds were proposed to be placed into a fund ;to assist greenkeepers who were “up against it.” A sub-committee consisting of Messrs. M. J. Casey, J. Kershaw and ’J. Gilbert were appointed to report upon the proposal to the next meeting. , It was decided that in the Wellington .Centre tournament in Christmas week the section play should take place on suburban greens and post-section play on city greens. Messrs. W. Jackson, M. J. Hodgins and S. M. Stone were appointed as the green selection committee.
