WELLINGTON CRESS

Match Between Clubs The scores in the twentieth annual match between the Working Men’s Club and the Ngaio Club, which was played on Saturday evening at the rooms of the Working Men’s Club, are as follow. —

Of the ten games played, the Working Men's Club won 6 and lost 4. This club thus regains the , honours that Ngaio won in last years fixture. Of the 20 matches played to date the Ngaio club has won eight, the Working Men’s Club has won 10, and two have ended in a tie. The scores at the first six boards, which count for the WcL lington Chess League’s A grade teams tourney, were 3-all. It was unfortunate that Ngaio were two short in the B grade section (boards 7 to 12 inclusive) on Saturday owing to the .services of Messrs. J. A. Glasgow, W. J. Carman and J. W. Harrison not being available. By making the higher score at these boards the Working Men’s Club’s team become holders of the shield for the ensuing year, as shown in the table of results given above. As showing the interest taken by suburban teams in this contest the Working Men’s Club’s telephone was very busy on Saturday evening. At the conclusion of the match Mr. Ernest E. Hicks (vice-president of the Ngaio Chess Club) happily returned thanks for the kindly welcome given by Mr. Beyer, and also for the hospitality extended to his teain. The Wellington League The Wellington Chess League's A grade teams’ tourney lias been won by the Wellington Chess Club as follows;—

The outstanding match between the Wellington Chess Club's No. 1 and No. 2 teams cannot therefore affect the result. B Grade Competition The final round ,of the league’s B grade matches was completed last week, when Wadestown defeated the Brooklyn F.B.C. at Brooklyn and Karori lost to the Wellington Chess Club in the latter’s rooms'.
