MAKURA FROM SYDNEY

Saloon Passenger List

The R.M.S. Makura, which arrived at Wellington from Sydney at 7.10 a.m. yesterday, experienced strong south-westerly winds with high seas on the trip across the Tasman. The bad weather lasted throughout the voyage until Cape Farewell was reached. In addition to miscellaneous cargo, the Makura brought: a fairly large consignment of Australian fruit. THE CANADIAN CONQUEROR. The Canadian Conqueror, which left Dunedin on August 23 for New York, Boston, and Montreal, via Australia, arrived at Panama on October 25. THE CANADIAN CRUISER. A radio from the Brisbane Maru, en route from Moji, Hong-Kong, Manila, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Risdon, states that she is due at Wellington this afternoon. She is expected to sail at noon to-morrow for Auckland, thence to Sydney. PORT DUNEDIN AT NAPIER. The C. and D. liner Port Dunedin, from Liverpool, via Auckland, arrived at Napier on Saturday afternoon. She will sail for Wellington to-morrow. RANGITATA TO CALL AT KINGSTON. The New Zealand Shipping Company’s motor-liner Rangitata, which is scheduled to leave Wellington on January 30 for London ria the Panama Canal, will call at Kingston. FOXTON LAID UP. The coastal motor-ship Foxton has been laid up at Lyttelton indefinitely owing to the slackness in trade. MAMILIUS RENAMED. The Aberdeen-White Star steamer Mamilius, ex Zealandic, which has been taken over by the Shaw, Savill Company, has beeu renamed Mamari. WAIMANA IN BALLAST. The Shaw, Savill and Albion steamer Waimana is scheduled to leave Great Britain for New Zealand in ballast early in December to load for England. She is due in New Zealand about January 10. The vessel’s former name was Waimana, but for a number of years she ran under the name of Ilerminius. She was recently renamed after her arrival in England from Australia. MESS-TABLE GOSSIP. Captain McLachlan is at present in command of the Pakura. Mr. R. G. Houghton has joined the Waimarino as second engineer in place of Mr. L. A. Calvert, who is joining the Marama as second engineer. Mr. W. IV. Houghton has joined the Waipahi as chief engineer, relieving Mr. C. W. Pirie for holidays. Mr. L. Blomfield, second engineer of the Wingatui, is on holiday leave, his place being taken by Mr. J. G. Craig. Mr. R. V. Waldron is purser on the Maunganui, which is due at Auckland to-day from Sydney. Mr. C. Callis will join the Maunganui to-day as purser. Although no definite announcement has yet been made, it is considered certain that Captain Davey, of the intercolonial liner Maunganui, will take command of the Monowai when that vessel enters the intercolonial service and extends its itinerary to Melbourne next mouth, states tho “Sydney Morning.
