Decline in Net Yield
FIGURES FOR OCTOBER Beer Duty Increase A heavy decrease is shown in the net Customs revenue collected at the port of Wellington during October, ■compared with that for the corresponding month of 1931. The revenue collected last month totalled £169, <l6, as against £192,255 for October, 1931, a decrease of £22,539. For the ten months of the current vear, the net Customs revenue totals £1,714,246, compared with £1,869,593 for the corresponding_j>eriocl of last year, a decrease of £155,347. The monthly figures and the totals for the ten mouths of this year and 1931 compare as follow: —
Motor Spirits and Tires. The duty collected ou motor spirit last month was £35,089 at 6d. a gallon, and £11,696 at 2d. a gallon, a total of £46,785, as against £56,223, a decrease of £9438. The total for the ten months Is £480,311, compared with, £433,083 last year, an increase of £47,228. Collections of tire tax, last month were £1497, compared with £lOl6 in October, 1931, an increase of £4Bl. For the ten months of this year tire tax collections total. £15,484, compared with £21,086 for the ten months, of 1931, a decrease of £5602. Beer Duty Increases. Beer excise collections for October totalled £5202, as against £5119 for October, 1931, an increase of £B3. For the ten months ended yesterday the total was £49,516, compared with £43,163 for the corresponding period of last year, an increase of £6353. RETURNS ELSEWHERE By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch.—Net Customs for October were £58,862 (compared with £68,307 last October); beer duty, £6663 (£8201); petrol tax, £13,613 (£20,196). Seven months’ figures are: Customs, £420,201 (£397,706); beer duty, £46,484 (£47,920); petrol tax, £107,805 (£138,013); tire duty, £4718 (£6701). Dunedin.—Customs returns for October were £47,671/10/3, as against £49,147/1/4 for the corresponding month last year. Beer duty was £24,792/9/8, as against £15,851/14/3motor tire tax, £777/2/-, compared with £729/10/3, and petrol tax £13,754/4/-, against £15,680 Auckland.—An increase of £10,365 in revenue from Customs duties was recorded at Auckland last month, compared with October, 1931. The total was £158,863, as'against £148,498 in the corresponding month last year. The figures for .the first 10 months Of the year show a considerable increase, the total being ( £1,626,131, compared with £1,242,589 in the corresponding period of last year. The revenue derived from petrol taxation and tire duties last month was £40,116, compared with £44.501 in October, 1931. From both sources the revenue for the first 10 months of the year was £394,732, a decrease of £47,835 on the 1931 total. Beer duty collected last month amounted to £10.139, compared with £9709 in. October, 1931. For the first 10 months' of the current year the revenue from that; source was £98,558, as against £83,669.
