SUPPORT FOR ENGINEERS
Tramwaymen’s Resolution
A resolution supporting the attitude adopted by the employees in the engineering industry has been passed by the Wellington Tramway • Employees’ Union. The resolution is as follows: — “That this union assures the engineers and allied trades employees of its appreciation of the efforts now being made by them to maintain reasonable conditions and wages, and also of its support in resisting the introduction of female labour into the industry. This union considers that the proposals of the employers if put into of-, feet would not only accentuate the present unemployment evil, but would also reduce these workers to a coolie standard of living, and considers that every effort should be made-to prevent the introduction by the employers of female labour, and the. worsened conditions and meagre wages proposed.”
