BRADMAN BEATEN

Dismissed Twice for 3 and 10 CRICKET AT PERTH England v. Combined Team VERITY TAKES 7 FOR 37 (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Ree. Oct 30, 6.30 p.m.) Perth, .Oct 30. The dismissal of Bradman for three runs in the first innings and for 10 in the second innings, and the oustanding success of the English bowler, H. Verity, on a sticky wicket were the outstanding features of Saturday’s play in the cricket match England v. a combined Australian side. Verity’s first innings average was seven Wickets for 37 runs.

The rain held off, but a stiff southwesterly wind was blowing. The wicket was drying, but was still very soft and wet for play. Bradman was dismissed by a wonderful catch by Hammond, who held the ball although he fell in doing so. Verity was brilliant, making the ball rise on the pitch. It was his first sticky wicket, and it suited him admirably. He secured seven wickets for 37 runs, including Bradman first ball.

The Combined side’s innings provided a procession. Bradman in his first essay got two off the first ball, and a single

from the next. He deflected the first baU from Verity off his bat to second slip, where Hammond was waiting. McCabe alone outplayed the bowlers, only striking loose ones. In the second innings Allen was given the bowling. Bradman again failed. He was apparently uncomfortable on the sticky wicket and gave an easy catch to Pataudi.

The improving wicket gave Flngleton an opportunity. He rattled up a spark-

Ung half-century. Generally the display of the Combined side was disappointing and was no criterion of the merits of the players. The attendance was 20,000 and the gate receipts were £1590. The Englishmen will leave to-night for Adelaide. Scores are as follow: — ENGLAND. First InningsSeven wickets (declared) f0r583 COMBINED AUSTRALIANS. First Innings. Richardson, c. Sutcliffe, t>. A London message to the “Sun” says that the "Evening News” thus expresses delight at Bradman’s downfall: “Verity. demon bowler, terrorises Australians. Don Bradman, mighty Bradman, cricketing idol of Australia, stands revealed as idol with clay feet. Bradman, scoring machine, non-stop batsman, who can’t be bowled, made 13 runs in two innings.”
