WOMEN’S DIVISION

New Zealand Farmers’ Union A meeting of the finance committee of the Women’s Division of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held in the Dominion oflicc, Wellington, on October 22, Mrs. J. Pow (Dominion treasurer) being in the chair. Applications for assistance for needy cases In the country were dealt with, and £BO was paid «from the community chest fund for wages and travelling expenses of housekeepers. A letter of thanks was read from the secretary of Wairoa branch for the, generous response from all branches. Cases of crockery, groceries, jam and preserves and donations of money have been forwarded to Wairoa and have been appreciated. In a letter received from the secretary of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union in the Wairoa district, mention was made that the division was the first in the field in the distribution of relief and hud once again proved itself a power for good. Wellington Branch. Wellington branch held an enjoyable bridge party recently in the Lyceum Club rooms, about 70 players being present. On account of illness Mrs. JI. Lundins (branch president) and Mrs. Preshaw (vice-president) were unable to attend. Mrs. Goodson (vice-president) thanked all present for their help in making the gathering so enjoyable. Hutt Valley. The Dominion secretary, Miss C. E. .Connor, visited the Hutt Valley branch for the last monthly meeting and gave an interesting address on the aims and objects of the organisation. Miss Connor explained Ibo working of the bush nurse and housekeeper scheme, the Flock House boys’ fund, Dominion book club, and offered suggestions for the programmes of branch meetings. The speaker was warmly thanked by the members on the motion of the president, Mrs. W. Lindsay. Miss Young gave a demonstration on the art of re-covering umbrellas. Plinuncrton District. Plimmertou district branch held the last meeting at Plimmertou. A competition for the best article made from the sugar-bag brought ten entries, Miss Barclay winning the first prize. Most of the articles were subsequently sold. Mrs. Flighty continued her demon- , stations on paper flower making. It was decided to hold the next meeting at Pabautanui.
