Mr. R. H. P. Ronayne • ' WORK FOR HIGHWAYS Dominion Special Service. Masterton, Oct. 28. Representatives of the Main Highways Board, the Public Works Department of Wellington, and various county councils in the No. 10 Highways District, as well as several engineers, attended a pleasant farewell function held in the Masterton County Council Chambers this afternoon at which the guest of honour was Mr. R. 11. P. Ronayne, chief engineer to No. 10 Highways District, who has received notice of his transfer on promotion to Whangarei. In making a presentation of a wellfilled wallet to Mi-. Ronayne, the chairman of the Masterton County Council, Mr. W. I. Armstrong, praised the work carried out by Mr. Ronayne and said he was very sorry they were losing such a very man. The next speaker, Mr. Q. Donald, chairman of the Featherston County Council and of the South Wairarapa River Board, also expressed regret that Mr. Ronayne was leaving the district. Mr. Ronayne introduced to the gathering Mr. 11. H. Sharp, who is to succeed him in this district. Thanking the speakers for what they had said, Mr. Ronayne said he would be very sorry to leave the district. The toast of the Public Works Department was proposed by Mr. J. B. Carruthers, chairman of the Eketahuna County Council, and responded to by Mr. C. J. McKenzie, Assistant Engineer-in-Chief to the Main Highways Board, and Mr. 11. 11. Sharp. Another toast proposed was that of Mr. S. Bolton, chairman of the Pahiatua County Council, who is probably one of the oldest local body men in the district.
