Edwin Feathers Match CLUB RINK GAMES Opening at Plimmerton Several of the clubs in the Wellington Centre were engaged in club or champion rinks events on Saturday afternoon, although the weather was Car from ideal for bowls, and in most eases one, round of play was the limit with a view to conserving the greens. At Wellington Bowling Club the first round of the petscentage fours was played, but play ceased at the tea interval. There was no play at all at Thorndon, and members there have yet to have a practice roll-up. The only centre event was the first challenge game in _ the Edwin Feathers competition, in which the Hataitai rink went down heavily to Kelburn on tho Kelburn green. Plimmerton Club Opens. The Plimmerton Bowling. Tennis, and Croquet Club commenced the season on Saturday, the opening function being performed by Mr. W. H. Field. M.P. The president, Mr. J. Wright, had the pleasure of welcoming a large company of visitors, including Mr. H. G. Mayer, president of the New Zealand Bowling Association, Messrs. A. McCune, K. E. Stonebank, J. Norrie, and H Mclntyre (Hataital). Tt was the seventh year of the club, said the president, and although the bowling section only bad 15 members, the balance-sheet was on the right side. They were looking forward to a prosperous season, and any time the city bowlers wanted a change at the week-end they would be very welcome at Plimmerton. Mr. Mayer and Mr. Field both addressed the gathering, expressing good wishes for the future prosperity of the club. Miss Neale sent down the kitty, and Mr. Ward the first bowl, the green then being declared open by Mr. Field. The company was entertained to afternoon tea at St. Andrew’s Hall by the members of the croquet club. Edwin Feathers. The first game in the Edwin Feathers was played at Kelburn, that club being the holders, and Hataitak the challengers. The rinks were:—Hataitai: Fletcher, Strange-Mure, Cometti, Brighting. Kelburn: Williams, McCallum, Routley, Gray. The game was played on the lower green, which was rather heavy. The home rink started off with six on the first head, and iu five successive heads scored 12. Brighting secured a couple of singles in the next two beads, when Kelburn put on another five heads in succession for 13 points, making the. score 25—2. The visitors added seven in the next three heads, but failed to stay, and with the score at 28—10, with only two heads to go. the position was hopeless, and the game ended with that score. Hataitai Rinks. Club rinks were played at. Hataitai with tho following results: —Roberts 18, Bennett 17; Wellings 21. Claridge 18; Shepherd 22, Cathie 19; Kean 20, Wells 19; Wearne, 15; Lambourne. 14; McKittrick. 22; Southwick, 18; Talbot, 23; Watts, 16. Sixteen new members wore ba Hotted for during the afternoon, giving the club a full membership. Kelburn Activities. The first round of the Lloyd Cup, club rinks, was played at Kelburn. In section A, Inglis beat Clark, Hay-Mackenzie beat. Strickland, and Lomas beat Compton. In section B. Gardner beat F. C. Widdop, J. R. Smith beat ,T. E. Widdop, and Patrick beat Doherty. Entries closed for club events on Saturday, there being 18 rinks entered for the club champion rinks, 24 in the pairs, and 46 in the singles, an increase on previous years. Trophy for Thorndon.

The members of Thorndon club received a pleasant surprise a few days ago when a beautiful silver bowl, with two miniature replicas, were received, to be competed for as a pairs trophy in the club. The gift came from Miss Freeman, of Seatoun, daughter bf the late Mr. William Freeman, a life member of the club, whoso death occurred about 18 months ago when he was almost a centenarian. The trophy is to commemorate. his long association with the club, and is inscribed “The William Freeman Trophy, 1931.’ It will be competed for annually, and the miniatures will be awarded to the winning pair. Midweek Pennant.

The following will represent Hataitai in the midweek pennant against Petone at Petone on Wednesday:—Pinnock, Dayman, Wellings, MeWhannell; Wrigley, Urquhart, Martin, Watts.
