BEERSHEBA BATTLE
Recital on Carillon
To-day at noon a special recital will be given on the National War Memorial Carillon, Buckle Street, in commemoration of the capture of Beersheba on October 31, 1917, by the Anzac Mounted Corps, when, as "The Desert column,” they came “out of the blue.” and turning the Turkish flank, captured Beersheba and opened up the way to the conquest of the Holy Land. The carillouist, Miss Gladys Watkins, will play the following programme:— (1) Westminster Chimes, with the striking of the hour on the big bell, "Reo Wairua” ("Spirit Voice”). (2) Striking of the “Palestine” bell six times (the “Palestine” bell being dedicated to the memory of the New Zealand Mounted Rifles). (3) “The Ash Grove” (Welsh). (4) “Ye Bank and Braes” (Scotch). (5) “Sally in Our Alley” (English). (6) “My Love’s an Arbutus” (Irish). (7) Andante Cantabile (Jef Denyn). (8) Hoki Hold (Maori). (9) “Roses of Picardy” (Haydn Wood). (10) Striking the “Palestine” bell six times. (11) The National Anthem.
