KILLED OVERNIGHT
De Valera Newspaper in Dublin READERS ASSAULTED (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Rec. October 27, 9.15 p.m.) Dublin, Oct. 27. Persons seen reading Mr. E. de Valera’s organ, “Evening Telegraph,” were assaulted in the streets and delivery vaps were attacked. Newsboys threw bundles of the papers into the Liffey and tore many hundreds of them to pieces. There were many fierce fights. The directors of the paper, which first appeared on June 3, state that it was destroyed overnight through the ill-advised action of those who should have been most solicitous for its welfare, the Irish Workers’ Union. Publication has been suspended. The directors express sympathy for the 118 workers thus rendered idle.
